China Braces for Back-to-Back Typhoons this Week
By Matthew Bossons
Typhoon season continues in the western Pacific Ocean this week with Typhoon Sarika and Typhoon Haima likely to impact China in the coming days.
Sarika, the 21st typhoon of the year, maintained a yellow alert Sunday, the second lowest notice in the four-tier typhoon warning system.
Despite the fact it has not yet made landfall, Typhoon Sarika has already been credited with severe flooding – and 21 deaths – in Vietnam, according to BBC. The storm is expected to make landfall sometime today and have the equivalent strength to a Category 2 hurricane in the Atlantic.
Local governments are being urged by the NMC to prepare against potential geological disasters.
